Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Hey, the Super Bowl was yesterday. That’s all the space we’re devoting to that today. However, there are only three more weeks before the “Super Bowl of Movies”, the Oscars. Hope you’re hitting the theaters (and your TVs) to watch some good ones (and most likely, some ones that’ll disappoint ya.)
Normally we put this at the end of the newsletter, but today, we’re kicking things off with your weekly One Shot!
https://cinequote.net/oneshot/newsletter-21-one-shots Okey doke, let’s look at the stats.
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage 84.7% | Lowest Win Percentage 61% |
THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK clawed its way to the top spot this week with a win rate of 84.7%. Despite there being more Jurassic Parks in the world than John Cazale movies (THE HORROR!), most people were able to gymnastic-kick their way into the right installment. And if you missed it linked on the day last week, you could check out our friends over at the Unkind Rewind podcast and their recent Lost Word episode if you happened to be curious how it’s held up all these years later…(umm no comment at press time.)
And surprise surprise, the Sunday Stumper proved to be the biggest foil of the week. LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN was not very fortuitous for folks. Only 61.03% of players figured out the genre-bending mistaken identity movie from 2006 despite the last quote name-dropping Slevin himself. That’s actually pretty good for a Stumper so maybe that last quote did tip the scales over the 50% equator. Sometimes (but not often) for tough movies, we’ll use part of the title in one of the quotes. A little tip to remember down the road…
Most Aced Movie 25.11% | Alright, you Bayniacs, stand up and get a 360° hero shot, because a whopping 25.1% of players Aced THE ROCK. Despite being in only a couple scenes, the stylist’s whimpering approval-seeking clued in people to the Connery/Cage Alacatrazian Bayhem. “Okay, I don't want to know nothing. I never saw you throw that gentleman off the balcony. All I care about is, are you happy with your haircut?” You can watch the scene in question here. |
CQ Recommends

A lost stegosaurus asking for directions (which we recommend.)
A detective starts spiraling out of control when a wave of gruesome murders with seemingly similar bizarre circumstances is sweeping Tokyo. “Gritty, neo-crime thriller with a smattering of the occult from director Kiyoshi Kurosawa. This is not for the faint of heart, but definitely recommended to anybody looking to expand their boundaries, not only in terms of world cinema but also because this ain’t your well-trodden police procedural type of murder mystery. Still feeling a bit cold and unsettled after watching this one…” - Sean |
Steve ‘Spaz’ Williams is a pioneer in computer animation. His digital dinosaurs of Jurassic Park transformed Hollywood in 1993, but an appetite for anarchy and reckless disregard for authority may have cost him the recognition he deserved. Available for free with ads on Pluto TV “Lots of great behind-the-scenes visual effects footage from blockbuster Industrial Light & Magic movies of the nineties. Also you get to see the mouse pad that was used to build the T-1000.” - Flet |
