CineQuote Newsletter #1
Sept 23, 2024
Hello There!
This is the first of the weekly CineQuote minimum-frills newsletter. It’s meant to be read quickly and with minimal concentration, with or without coffee. Your call.
We’re still futzing a bit with the content of this thing here, but we think it’d be interesting to give you some statistics from the previous week of games, as well as some insight into how we chose some clips. Oh, and there’s a neat toggle feature in your settings that allows you to not get these. But you should get them. They’re neat. So many neat things, you guys.
Last Week’s Highlights
Last week, nearly all of our movies had a female lead protagonist. Sometimes we’ll do theme weeks and not even disclose it’s a theme week. Is this upcoming week another theme week? Well, I guess you’ll just have to play to find out!*
Highest Win Percentage 89.9% | Lowest Win Percentage 17.6% |
The highest success rate of last week came on Saturday with Matilda! This was back in the mid 90s when Mara Wilson ruled Hollywood with a little adorable iron fist. 89.9% of you guessed it right. Which means about 10 percent of users have to go to THE CHOKEY!
The biggest miss of last week was Albert Brooks’ underrated rom-com Modern Romance which broke a lot of streaks. 82% of players couldn’t come up with it. The Sunday Stumper really owned up to its name. Hopefully it’ll prompt some of you to check it out. It’s free on Tubi (with ads) or you can rent it through Apple TV or Amazon for around four bucks.
Most Aced Movie 11.37% ![]() | Most Aces this week? THE NOTEBOOK! Boy, many of you knew we were dishing some Nicholas Sparks with the quote: “That child's got too much spirit for a girl of her circumstance.” “Nah it's just summer love.” “Trouble is what it is.” Well, apparently a lot of you knew trouble as well. Good job. |
*No. It’s not.
Although we here at CineQuote showcase movies we love and movies we don’t, we try to stay as bipartisan as it comes because one person’s Citizen Kane is another person’s Suburban Commando. We might as well cover our bases and say that one person’s Suburban Commando is another's Citizen Kane. Ok. There. That should do it. We’d hate to get angry emails from all you Hulkamaniacs.
CQ Recommends

A picture about nothing.
We here at CineQuote grew up in the halcyon days of video stores, and one such casualty of video stores closing is that with them so went the Employee Picks section, where customers could rent movies chosen specially by the staff. In an effort to breathe a little bit of life into that endangered (extinct?) tradition, every newsletter we’ll recommend a movie or two we think y’all should see. They might be oldies or recents, and they might be wildly popular and you feel there’s no need to promote such an obvious choice, but in that case, know that not everybody has seen everything. Oh, and if you hate those recommendations, we’ll have a couple more next week. Nobody bats a thousand.
The story of a sheltered young woman who discovers she has an inexplicable power that materializes when she feels desire for a female student at her university. Stream on Kanopy, Vudu, Crackle. Rent on Apple TV+. “Ambiguous Scandinavian dread in which to bask.” - Sean |
When 93-year-old Thelma Post gets duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, she sets out on a treacherous quest across the city to reclaim what was taken from her. “It’s like The Beekeeper but less bee puns and finger trauma and more heart-warming action. June Squibb was fantastic and it was great to see Richard Roundtree back in action!” - Flet |
Last thing for this week is a reminder that we still occasionally put out hints on our Twitter (X???) and Instagram, so be sure to follow us if ya want a gentle nudge in the right direction.
As always, it’d be a big help if you joined up as a Member. For 5 bucks a month, you get access to the last seven days of movies, information on where the movie of the day is streamable or rentable, and no ads when ads eventually roll in like locusts.
That’s it for now. We got a great seven more days of movies coming at ya. Some we love, some we don’t, but unless you find us at a host bar, we’ll never say which.
If you made it this far, enjoy this fresh batch of one shot quotes, made just for you: the reader of newsletters.
