CineQuote Newsletter #5
Oct 21, 2024
With the ink still wet and whipped through the air to land at your virtual doorstep, it’s your CQ Newsletter! Now before you get too despondent, the stats from last week show it was a BRUTAL one. If you’re among the many who thought, “Gee, I haven’t even heard of most of these” well, you aren’t alone (we’re assuming you begin your innermost thoughts with the word Gee, just like us.)
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage 80.6% | Lowest Win Percentage 38.78% |
To that end, we’re thinking this week MAY be a touch easier. I mean, it almost has to be, right? The highest success rate of last week was CHILD’S PLAY with a win rate of 80.6%. A far cry from the almost perfect scores of MARY POPPINS from the week prior. And much like Mary Poppins who magically entered the life of a child, everybody seemed to know Chucky. Good canonical trivia to latch onto is that Chucky is part of the Good Guys doll line from the manufacturer Play Pals (all fictional.) There were fifty different names that the Good Guy dolls could have, with just a 2% chance of it being "Chucky". Other known names are "Tommy", "Paulie", "Larry", "Oscar", "Charlie", and "Billy". And there’s an even lower percent chance that this trivia will ever help you in life!
Lo and behold what gave people the biggest fit was AMERICAN HUSTLE, which crept shamefully to a 38.78% win rate. Unfortunately, a DeNiro quote about a casino that had nothing to do with the movie CASINO really threw people off, as well as Christian Bale doing a quasi-New York (but non-Newsie) accent. This may have been our bad, but memorable quotes from a movie with non-memorable character names in which the title is never mentioned, is definitely a tricky assignment. We know a lot of people saw this thing, but we should have tried to make it easier somehow with longer quotes, and more actors represented. We learn a lot from the numbers, and the numbers told us we should have either made this one a Sunday Stumper or found easier quotes.
Most Aced Movie 11.37% | Highest percentage of Aces went to KONG: SKULL ISLAND where 13.6% of players knew which of the 2000 Samuel L. Jackson movies we were highlighting with his rally-crying: “We are soldiers. We do the dirty work so our families and our countrymen don't have to be afraid. They shouldn't even know a thing like this exists.” KONG: SKULL ISLAND is a good example of why you sometimes need to change your search words. Many people recognized it was King Kong-related, but when you start typing “king kong” this movie does not come up as an option. If that was what befell you, try and rethink your guesses a bit, especially if your instincts are pushing you down the right road. |

Play the role of a young boy traveling through an eerie and treacherous world in an attempt to discover the fate of his sister. Find it on PC, PlayStation, App Store and Google Play “Not a movie but a unique, eerie, and atmospheric masterpiece of a game. Perfect for this time of year!” - Flet |
A few more horror movies are coming up this week as part of Spooktober. Be looking hard for clues on that fifth quote if you’re in a jam. We’re trying to help you get it but our means of hinting can be murky. Also, please vote in the upcoming election. You can check vote.org to make sure you’re good to go.
