Happy Newsletter Day!
Today is October 14th, Columbus Day / Indigenous People Day, where we weren't tempted to spotlight Ridley Scott’s 1492: CONQUEST OF PARADISE as a tie-in. In fact, we had already hit our Gérard Depardieu quota for the year with GREEN CARD. No telling when* MY FATHER, THE HERO is gonna show up in future years.
*Never
But we DO occasionally align movies with the date, something to keep in mind down the road. Complete coincidence that we did a natural disaster movie last week right smack in the middle of some national, natural disasters. I guess that was present of mind for the lot of you because…
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage 95.6% | Lowest Win Percentage 23.6% |
…the highest success rate of last week was TWISTER with a win rate of 95.6%. That number could have been even higher but it looks like the new sequel TWISTERS was a popular wrong answer. Mind those fast fingers, friends! A reminder to be checking those years of release, or a sneaky plural, so you don’t squander a valuable guess.
Lowest win rate this week goes to the arcane horror flick SESSION 9 which befuddled damn near everybody. Only 23.6% of players wound their way to getting this “bunch of guys cleaning up an abandoned insane asylum and things go awry” mindbender. We would like to see someone make a movie where a bunch of guys have to clean up an abandoned insane asylum and everyone has a perfectly fine time. Josh Lucas co-stars in SESSION 9, and he’s also the voice of Home Depot commercials, which is why we can’t watch those without getting spooked out.
Most Aced Movie 19.13% | Highest percentage of Aces also went to TWISTER where many of you zeroed in on the great Philip Seymour Hoffman and the coining of a new word (possibly.) “Dude, he's gonna rue the day. He's gonna rue the day he came up against the extreme, baby.” “-Yeah. Amen, man.” “Bill, I'm talking imminent rue-age. Imminent rue-age.” Try to use rue-age this week if you can in casual conversation. Casulsation? Ok, sorry. |
CQ Recommends
Need a good recommendation? Here's a few that may have slipped by ya.

Popcorn’s ready!
A college freshman joins her university's rowing team and undertakes an obsessive physical and psychological journey to make it to the top varsity boat, no matter the cost. Streaming on Netflix. “Like The Boys in the Boat, except very few boys or Nazis. It’s great.” - Sean |
A fictional history of two legendary revolutionaries' journey away from home before they began fighting for their country in the 1920s. Streaming on Netflix. “This movie is a six foot party sub of action that includes a man fighting a tiger in a forest, a bungie jump handshake under a bridge, and a savage dance battle that leaves only one standing.” - Flet |
We’ve got some more horror movies coming up this month. Sorry if we scare you. It was either that or go baseball heavy given that we’re in the playoff season.
We toast with goblets overflowing with honey mead all of the new Members, who joined the CQ round table this last week. Thank you for being knightly.
