CineQuote Newsletter #11

December 2, 2024

Happy December to everybody out there. A possible uptick this month in holiday-themed movies (except sorry, not today’s movie) so be ready for those. We’re gonna have to dig deep to find all those great Kwanzaa movies, but dammit, that’s the whole reason we started this thing! Study up on those, as well as movies focused on Christmas, Solstice, Chanukah, and of course, the hallowed Icelandic holiday Jólabókaflóð.

This game is free to play, but it takes a lot of work. We could use ya on the team. Be a hero, become a CineQuote Member.  For 5 bucks a month, you get access to the last seven days of movies (no more missing days! do the whole week in one sitting!) you also get info on where the movie of the day is streamable or rentable, and a cozy spot in our hearts. Just go to your Profile tab and hit SUBSCRIBE to sign up! Thanks a mil. Okay, let’s dive into the numbers...

Last Week’s Highlights

Highest Win Percentage

89.5%

Lowest Win Percentage

58.1%

ROCKY triumphed with a 89.5% win rate. One of our favorite Thanksgiving movies (and movies in general) this was actually the first time we have showcased Rocky, despite doing most of the sequels and some of the Creeds. We think Rocky (1) is the best of all of ‘em and had been saving it. Will we do it again? Sure, but we’re sure one of the offspring will pop up sooner. Here is some bonus trivia for you…Rocky Balboa's boxing record is 57 wins, 23 losses, and 1 draw. 54 of his wins were by knockout. Only three times did he win by decision, and we don’t think we ever saw that on film. Correct us please if we’re wrong.

THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL narrowly edged out PRINCESS MONONOKE for toughest test of the week. Only 58.1% of players got it right, but nearly everybody guessed HOTEL MUMBAI, so if that was you, you’re in good company. Both movies feature Dev Patel and both are set in India, but just sliiiiiiiiighter different tone, and way less terror and fear in Marigold unless you count the cheekiness of Bill Nighy.

Most Aced Movie

21.9%

THE SANDLOT hit a homerun of an Ace rate. 21.9% of players knew that narrator’s voice all too well. We wonder if they also knew that was the voice of the writer/director? Well, we didn’t until we looked it up. His name is David Mickey Evans so if you don’t know, now you know.

After the army he became one of the pioneering developers of bungee jumping. Of course, we all know why.”

A working-class family from Melbourne, Australia fights city hall after being told they must vacate their beloved family home.

Irreverent, charming, very Australian. Led by paternally delightful Michael Caton (and a VERY young Eric Bana), The Castle is tonic for the misanthrope.
