Tim Burton will launch a Goulet like it’s nothing.
If you’re reading this then you survived the Fortnight of Fright (trademark pending). Some people really liked this theme as we don’t typically make horror movies front and center on CineQuote, and wow, some people really didn’t, as we’re being sued for reckless endangerment and many restless evenings. Well, we like the idea of doing theme weeks but you can unlock the front door and return the shotgun to the rack above the mantle, scary movie week(s) won’t rear its head until next Spooktober. We hope though everyone catches up on red-hair centric film for National Love Your Red Hair Day later this week.
ALSO… a big apology. We did Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 during this span. Not only that, but we did it mid-week, implying that it was gettable for most people. It wasn’t. There are 13 Halloween movies, maybe more by the time this reaches your inbox. You basically had to timestamp the movie based on actors’ voices as opposed to plot elements. For those who got it, maybe some luck was involved. But being that it massacred players’ stats (no pun intended), in hindsight we really needed to make it a Sunday Stumper. This ain’t an exact science and our braintrust does the best they can, but mistakes were made. And that was one. Now some people will say the mistake was doing one of the Rob Zombie Halloween movies to begin with… and well, we don’t play favorites here. All movies, both good and Mr. Zombie’s Halloween II are fair game.
Even though we’re not gonna do the movie Election tomorrow (spoiler!), we do encourage all of y’all to get out in vote if you’re living in the U.S. Australia, don’t worry, you can just enjoy the game as your elections are not for awhile. But for you Americans, especially ones living in battlegrounds, exercise your civic duty and vote for the candidates that are supporting making CineQuote part of public schooling…
If you want to help CineQuote beyond just playing it, you can upgrade to a full fledged CQ Memeber. It helps keep our team churning out new games, and the lights on at our headquarters. But of course everyone reading this is welcome to try their luck at the One Shot.
Alrighty. Let’s talk numbers:
BY THE NUMBERS
Sun Oct 18 to Sat Oct 31
71%
of games were won
5%
of games were aced on the first quote
2010s
the decade players knew best: 78% of those games won
Highs & Lows
NEXT EASIEST
93.8% Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
87.5% The Ring (2002)
85.2% Bride of Chucky (1998)
NEXT HARDEST
37.9% Halloween II (2009)
47.5% Trick 'r Treat (2007)
48.5% The Monster Squad (1987)
BEETLEJUICE. What can we say? People know this movie very well, and they’re especially cautious saying the title three times, even though that’s probably gonna be the eventual sequel, and final installment. Curious if the astonomers are upset over the spelling of this movie…
An absoulte doozy, most people had never heard of this movie’s existence, but Josh & S.A.M. really did come out back in 1993. We swear! As far as plot goes, well, kind of like if a habitual liar was brother to the world’s most guillable 8 year old, and then you add in some hijinx. The supporting case though is nuts. Martha Plimpton, Steven Tobolowsky, Chris Penn, Joan Allen…that’s definitely something. This movie really only cracked the 30 percent threshold thanks to the fifth quote where we laid out the acronym part of the title. Thank you for the emails accusing us of making up a movie, but again, we assure you, this thing is real.
Top Aces

Robert Goulet
TOP ACE
12.1%
“Nobody made me money like you. I mean, before your nerves went, you were a demon. It's just that Winter River, Connecticut is, if you'll forgive me, nowhere.”
Again, this movie is scripture for some. Not sure we could have found an Ace quote that would have been below the 10 percent threshold. He really should have done more movies that Goulet. Or rather, he really should have done more movies that we saw.
At a Glance
Share of players who won each game, easiest to hardest.

Spotlights
STREAKBREAKER
Josh & S.A.M. (1993)
51.2%
of the players lost a winning streak to it. Next closest was Halloween II at 42.3%.
5th Quote Gimme
The Wicker Man (1973)
34.6%
of players needed all five quotes and got it on the last one.
REPEAT OFFENDER
Beetlejuice (1988)
14th Tim Burton game
Players have won 87% of Tim Burton's games on CineQuote. Earlier entries: Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985), Batman Returns (1992), Batman (1989).
MOST FAMILIAR FACE
Tom Cruise, as of The Mummy
26 Tom Cruise games so far on CQ
Players win 77% of the time Tom Cruise is in the cast.
WRONG VILLAIN
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
13.5%
Of the few wrong guesses, 13.5% went to Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The second quote was Alan Rickman's Judge Turpin, but some players figured it was the Sheriff of Nottingham.
TWO WORDS
The Ring
53.4%
Over half of all players won on the third quote, which was merely the words "Seven days". That videotape really sticks with people.
WRONG RINK
Bride of Chucky
4.3%
The second quote had a boy heading to Princeton on a figure skating scholarship, and the top wrong guess, at 4.3% of wrong guesses, was Blades of Glory. Wrong film, right amount of sequins.

NED WHO?
Stephen Tobolowsky
76.6% vs 31.3%
Players win 76.6% of games with Stephen Tobolowsky in the cast. Josh & S.A.M. managed 31.3%. Ned Ryerson would be crushed nobody remembered him.
Of all the games won this stretch, the quote that clinched it:

CQ Recommends
Because of a technical defect an American bomber team mistakenly orders the destruction of Moscow. The President of the United States has but little time to prevent an atomic catastrophe from occurring.
Intense, timely in a scary way, and one of Sidney Lumet’s masterworks. At the first (of several) Cold Wars, Lumet tackles the paranoia, fear, and precariousness of global politics in a movie that feels like the temperature turns up a degree with every minute of screentime.
