CineQuote Newsletter #23
And then there was one... award left to go.

Alright, awardphiles, we’re post-SAGs, post-Golden Globes, post-Critic’s Choice, post-Independent Spirits, even post-Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. All that leaves is the Oscars on March 2nd. We went back and forth as to whether to post our predictions on how that’s gonna go, and ultimately decided to keep quiet on who we think is gonna win/lose/get slapped. And if you’re cynical about award shows and care very little about who wins, we get it. For us though, even though it’s a “religious holiday” on Sunday, we’re not gonna go Oscar-heavy on the games this week. Wouldn’t be the worse thing to be slightly aware of what’s nominated though…
Also, normally we don’t discuss yesterday’s Sunday Stumper in this newsletter, on account some people may still be playing it when this shows up in your inbox. For now though, we’ll just say, it does occasionally help to read these, and look over the movies we list in the Recommendation section. Just sayin’.
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage 88.3% | Lowest Win Percentage 57.7% |
No surprise as this is Disney/Marvel, and it also made 108 bazillion dollars, but BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER won the top spot this week. In fact, 88% is a little low for Marvel typically, but we’re guessing a lot of people used their last guess for the first BP.
Well, we went and name-dropped Velvet in the fifth quote, but it wasn’t enough to save folks from the Sunday Stumper walloping players. Only 57.7% found their way across the finish line. Lot of Black Beauty guesses, but NATIONAL VELVET is the only one of those that has a character named Velvet. Including a keyword from the title in the final quote is not something we do often, but definitely remember to consider that option down the road when you run into a toughie (WINK WINK WINK WINK.)
Most Aced Movie 12.7% | Despite Cheech Marin being in, yes, a lot of Cheech and Chong movies, it was his wise caddying that helped players eagle the top Ace rate for the week for TIN CUP. “Never bet money that you don't have on a dog race with an ex-girlfriend who happens to be a stripper. Now you broke that rule, man. You're gonna have to be sweet to her, homes.” Weird how we haven’t seen a Tin Cup sequel yet, right? |
CQ Recommends

Please sir, I want some more (recommendations.)
Plagued by a series of apocalyptic visions, a young husband and father questions whether to shelter his family from a coming storm, or from himself. “Jeff Nichols has made some great movies, but Take Shelter still remains my favorite. Call me paranoid, but there’s a lot of smart thinking here in, uh, preparing for the future…” - Sean |
