CineQuote Newsletter #26

Around the World in 8 Days.

So, we went from Texas to Argentina to China to Paris to Lansquenet-sous-Tannes to Massachusetts to New York to Berlin. Not a bad trip. Even though it’s rare to do theme week, we’ll continue to honor and acknowledge International (and National) Women of all walks and talks throughout the rest of the year. Thanks for being part of CineQuote.

Last Week’s Highlights

Highest Win Percentage

78.7%

Lowest Win Percentage

34.0%

No one’s crying for EVITA this week, as the Madonna-led biopic pleaded, and was blessed, with the top spot. 78.7% usually isn’t high enough, but luckily there was no animated version of Evita (yet?) which is what hurt MULAN’S chance of claiming first.

And despite us dropping the name Paris a bunch in the last quote (with decidedly non-French accents) only about a third of players could come up with PARIS, TEXAS. Some of you tossed in a final salvo of the Juliette Binoche movie PARIS, and hey, ya never know. Sadly, this may be a reflection that not enough people have seen Paris, Texas, and to that, we say, we’re jealous. Wish we could go back and watch it for the first time. ALSO, it was the first time we ever praised the movie of the day in the game itself, calling it a CQ All Time Top Ten Favorite. We try to be impartial here, but couldn’t help ourselves. Even more of a reason to watch it if you haven’t.

Most Aced Movie

16.8%

By midweek, people had gotten in the mode of thinking of international women, so that may have helped AMELIE crack the top of the creme brulee for Most Aced. Nearly 17% of y’all recognized the panhandler who wouldn’t accept a donation on dimanche.

[translated into English]

“Sorry madam , I don't work on Sundays.”

CQ Recommends

Through a failed medical experiment, a priest is stricken with vampirism and is forced to abandon his ascetic ways. The wife of a childhood friend only complicates matters.

Not sure enough people talk enough about Chan-wook Park’s horror forray (horray?) It’s fun, sexy, dark, creative, stars Song Kang-ho… what more do you need?”

The Unkind Rewind is a movie podcast exploring the filmic nostalgia of a special guest each week, to learn if their beloved favorites have held up, or perished in the light of today. They’ve talked Labyrinth, The Craft, Beastmaster, St. Elmo’s Fire and many others. Give it a listen if you like movie talk and are tired of the usual podfare out there.
