Plus an unbelievable corn-buttering trick you don't want to miss!

Good morning, and apologies if you were expecting an Easter-themed movie yesterday. We may be able to squeeze one in this week, we’ll see, but as far as Monday goes, it is definitely secular. Stop trying to guess movies that would tie into Religious Feast days, and instead try to collaborate with your friends, family, or co-workers. We’re sure if you listen, you’ll get it.
If you don’t count last Sunday’s stumper, this week was virtually Val-less. We’ve gone ahead and moved his movies to the Game Packs, you can play that here, as well as the other current Packs.
You may have a grievance with today’s movie (and rightly so,) but the rest of the week is a bit easier. We hope you enjoy ‘em. And for you history buffs, this week in Movie History was the much-delayed, mid-Covid Academy Awards, live from some dinner theater in Los Angeles. Chloé Zhao, Frances McDormand, and Anthony Hopkins all went home with Oscars, and though it was the lowest-watched Oscar telecast since, like, the 1940s, no one got slapped.
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage87.8% | Lowest Win Percentage71.1% |
Hopefully, we didn’t have any hackers manipulating the win rates this week, but even if you’re out there, it’s probably apropos for WARGAMES, which netted the high score of 87.8%. Oh, David Lightman, where are you in our darkest hours? Our big takeaway from WarGames, other than of course the nuclear Sword of Damocles, was how a pro butters their corn…
On the other hand, WONKA gave people absolute stomach aches. Despite the day achieving a perfect staircase of scores (e.g. 8% on 1, 9% on 2, 14% on 3, and higher and higher on 4 and 5) the Tïmmœtëé Çhålãmèēt musical prequel only really found success in the later clues, even though we here the lead in all but one quote. Maybe people just haven’t gotten around to Wonka yet, or maybe when he sings, you’re still thinking of his Bob Dylan role, and not his chocolatier one.

“Now, listen carefully. Path. Follow path. Gate. Open gate, through gate, close gate. Last ferry 6:30 so run, run, run.” |
Whether it was the dulcet Hertfordshire accent of John Wood (an actor who built his reputation on the stage, rather than on the screen), or the hint that it was a location with a ferry, or just the text itself, 12.4% of players Aced WARGAMES. You’re the type of prodigious young mind Falken can mold…
CQ Recommends

WOPR is a big fan of Dr. Strangelove.
A highly skilled jewel thief, Frank longs to leave his dangerous trade and settle down with his girlfriend, Jessie. Eager to make one last big score in order to begin living a legitimate life, Frank reluctantly agrees to do business with some very tough customers. You had me at neo-noir heist film starring James Caan. One can argue Michael Mann really came into his own with the 1986 MANHUNTER, but THIEF remains top-tier M.M. for me. -Sean |
