CineQuote Newsletter #25

Our newsletter can rent a car!

We hit 25 of these bad boys. Are you liking them? Or are they going unread like that copy of Infinite Jest sitting over on your bookshelf? Anything you’d like to see addressed here at CQHQ? More stats? More recommendations? More hints on the upcoming slate of movies? Or just some more of that old razzle dazzle? You can reach out anytime by hitting the profile tab, then contact or feedback, and our team of chimps sitting at typewriters will get us the message.

Also, a couple days late, but HAPPY (belated) INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY! We are honored that you women (both foreign and domestic) play CineQuote as part of your day. Even though we missed all the fanfare we’re going to make this week “International Women’s Week” here at CineQuote.net. It should be International Women’s Month, Year, Decade, etc, but the least we can do is a week of movies featuring our better halves. Good luck, and thanks for all you do. In the words of Jim O’Rourke, please take over, cuz if you don’t this world will come to an end and it won’t take long.

Last Week’s Highlights

Unlike Samuel Gerard, we actually DO care that you did so well on THE FUGITIVE. Nearly 90% of you nailed it even though we didn’t mention a one-arm man at all. When people talk about Ralph Fiennes “winning” an Academy Award for Schindler’s List, and by that we mean voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, quickly correct them that it was actually TLJ’s man-hunting-for-man performance that netted him the gold statue.

Highest Win Percentage

89.9%

Lowest Win Percentage

51.8%

In hindsight, we really should have made NINE MONTHS a Sunday Stumper. We thought for sure a movie with Hugh Grant, Julianne Moore, Jeff Goldblum, Joan Cusack, and freaking Robin Williams (!) would fare a lot better, but unfortunately, only 51.8% of players landed on the “baby en route” romcom. It actually hit 19th overall that year in box office gross, right smack between Dumb & Dumber and Outbreak, two movies where Hugh Grant’s mumbly stammering would have gelled nicely. Nine Months actually made more money than Bad Boys, Braveheart, and Clueless, so popularity wise, it’s up there. Maybe we were right all along to drop this on a Saturday, and maybe next time it pops up down the road we can get this baby to the 60% mark…

Most Aced Movie

20.96%

We didn’t think you would so easily place Dutchman Jeroen Krabbe’s voice so easily, but nearly 21% of you Aced it. This is as good a time as any to reveal that CineQuote’s wealthy benefactor is none other than pharmaceutical grade ProVasic from the (good?) folks at Devlin McGregor.

“Now, a new drug on the cusp of approval by the Food and Drug Administration is poised to change these old methods.”

Ask your doctor if Provasic is right for you!

CQ Recommends

We recommend spending time outside between movies.

Norma Rae is a southern textile worker employed in a factory with intolerable working conditions. Along with a visiting labor organizer, they undertake the difficult, and possibly dangerous, struggle to unionize her factory.

Where has this movie been all my life and why did I wait so long to see it? Also, Ron Leibman should have had a bigger career. Both he and Fields are fantastic here.”
