CineQuote Newsletter #40

The 40 Week Old Newsletter

Hey, we hit 40! And as to the question of whether or not the newsletter is a virgin that’s probably up to your wildest interpretations. However, there’s several thousand of you reading this, so to be fair, this newsletter has been around. Okay, now that we’ve lost all dignity, let’s get a snapshot on the week that was.

Last Week’s Highlights

Highest Win Percentage

91.8%

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

Lowest Win Percentage

41.3%

Benji the Hunted (1987)

We’re proud of you, CQ Nation. Here you go and pull a 1975 independent rock musical/horror sci-fi film into the 90 percentile win rate! Does Tim Curry have a deliciously unique voice? Well, sure, but not many of you guessed Home Alone 2 or Clue, although Dr. Frank-N-Furter as the Butler is some crazy ret-con fan flick we’d love to see. Seeing THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW hit Disney and Marvel levels of player success makes us want to do more of the same, except of course, there’s nothing quite like T.R.H.P.S.

How did you not get this from a clip of Benji barking and a rando-cougar snarling and hissing (snarssing?) Actually, we’re more concerned with those who DID get BENJI THE HUNTED on Quote 3 last week, and we gotta say, you apparently know your snarssing eerily well. We also took the liberty of removing the 2018 Benji reboot so it wouldn’t be guessable (that movie is dead to us and it knows why.) By the time we name-dropped the little scamp in Quote 5 you either had the 1974 original or the 1987 Pacific Northwest-set sequel (?) to choose from. Going by the 41% win rate, we’re thinking many of ya opted for the original. Hey, don’t snarss at us, we tried as best we could to help.

Rachel Weisz as Evelyn Carnahan The Mummy (1999)

Ace of the Week

17.7%

“You know, nasty little fellows such as yourself always get their comeuppance.”

“They do?”

“Oh yes, always.”

HOW DID YOU KNOW THIS? Is Rachel Weiszszszzsssszsszsszz (sp?) that recognizable? Or was watching THE MUMMY part of your religion and you know it sooooo well there’s not a line in the film that would stump you? Either way, we’re gonna have to come roaring back when we do this movie again, a la Rick O’Connell himself, with a first quote that’ll knock off your linen wrappings.

CQ Recommends

We recommend spending time with a lil puppers (Benji hanging out with director Joe Camp.)

The Conversation (1974)

A paranoid, secretive surveillance expert has a crisis of conscience when he suspects that the couple he is spying on will be harmed.

Okay, this is a very well known movie for our little recommendation nook over here, but whether you haven’t seen it ever, or it’s been awhile, Francis Ford Coppola’s THE CONVERSATION needs to be (re)watched. It was prescient for 1974 when it came out, and somehow prescient for 2025. And Gene Hackman, cast against type, is stellar.
