CineQuote Newsletter #42

We know that you know that we know that you know.

Little late to the presses this week. Sorry fam. We’ve been dealing with some heavy travel schedules, understaffing at CQ HQ, firework mishaps, suppressive heat waves, problems over at Amity beach, filibusters, and somebody sending us threatening letters that they know “what we did last summer.” Look, we’re tired of apologizing, but putting Love Actually in July seemed like a good idea at the time. Next time we do it we’ll slap it in during the holidays, okay? Let’s stop with the whole “killing off our employees one at a time” thing okay? Jeez.

Last Week’s Highlights

Highest Win Percentage

88.0%

National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985)

Lowest Win Percentage

44.7%

Eastern Promises (2007)

Two movies that spotlight London as a setting, and two movies with very different results, but only one of them features a naked knife fight in a Russian bathhouse. Probably Chevy Chase’s most raw performance…

Clark Griswold and co. spun circles in a roundabout enough times to get EUROPEAN VACATION the top score of the week. 88% ain’t too shabby considering there are four National Lampoon’s movies in which Chase appears. Will he be lured out for another one after the commercially and critically maligned Vegas Vacation? Probably! Where would you set the next trip for the Griswolds? North Korea, the Outback, Rio? Wherever/whenever it is Audrey and Rusty will of course be new actors.

Not many of you figured out we were in the organized crime story from David Cronenberg, but yes, buck-ass nude Viggo Mortensen fighting two hitmen in a steam room, do you really need more incentive than that to watch EASTERN PROMISES? If the answer is yes, then we don’t even know who you are anymore…

Dana Hill as Audrey Griswold.

Ace of the Week

24.4%

"I've missed the shit out of you. Luckily, Debbie's been coming by to cheer me up.”

“That bitch!”

Sure enough, N.L.E.V. went 2/2 with top Win Rate and top Ace. However, with all due respect, this is #NotOurAudrey. Dana Barron, the OG Audrey, will always be our fave, especially after her dramatic turn in the sexual-consent centric CBS Schoolbreak Special ”No Means No” starring her, Chad Lowe, Bonnie Bedelia, Lori Loughlin, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Twin Peaks High School grad James Marshall. Afterschool specials get a bad rap, but it was waaaaaaay better than that Connie Sellecca fear-porn “Miracle Landing”

CQ Recommends

We recommend live music! It’s never not on our mind.

Rams (2015)

In a remote Icelandic farming valley, two brothers who haven't spoken in 40 years have to come together in order to save what's dearest to them - their sheep.

This was remade five years ago as an Australian film, but treat yourself and just watch the Icelandic original. Darkly funny, surprising sweet, and chock full of corrosive Scandinavian pride.
