Canoodling with CQ

We’re hoping this newsletter is more your tempo.
Only one movie hit above 90% this week. We’ll chalk that up to some of the movies being more off the beaten path, but primarily because we’re all scrambling to explain to our loved ones what we were doing at that Coldplay concert with our co-worker, and that kind of stress can really take a toll on mental focus. Hopefully this week we can get back to basics and remember to just go to the bathroom or grab another soft drink from the concession stand when they fire up that crowd cam.
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage92.2% ![]() A Bug’s Life (1998) | Lowest Win Percentage47.8% ![]() Hollow Man (2000) |
Pixar’s second full length feature after Toy Story, A BUG’S LIFE seemed to not offer too much of a challenge for CQ players. Sure, “bug” is in the title, but this is among the least well-remembered as far as Pixar’s body of work goes, and whereas Toy Story just keeps churning out sequels (TS 5 release date slated for June 2026), this one was one and done.
Despite way more CGI genitals than A Bug’s Life, HOLLOW MAN could not crack a 50% win rate. Maybe because they danced around copyrights and never used the word invisible once in this movie, or maybe because Showgirls director Paul Verhoeven couldn’t figure out quite what to do with a naked, evil, occasionally-seen Kevin Bacon. If we were gonna do a Verhoeven this week, we really should have done Starship Troopers to pair with A Bug’s Life as the weirdest drive-in double feature. Sorry everybody…

![]() Hopper executes a front naked choke against Flik | "You think it's over?” ”No, no, no. I can explain!” “All your little stunt did was buy them time.” “No, please, please!” |
Apparently we gotta bunch of entomologists here or something, as A BUG’S LIFE landed the top win rate as well as the highest Ace % for the week, and while Seinfeld’s Bee Movie, and Woody Allen’s Antz siphoned some guesses, many of you figured out which “insecticinema” we were showcasing.
CQ Recommends

We recommend showing affection to new friends and family.
![]() Roman Holiday (1953) | A bored and sheltered princess escapes her guardians and spends the day with an American newsman in Rome. There are a few missteps here and there, and whimsical dreaming about cooking and cleaning for a man feel uh, dated, BUT there’s so much charm here it’s impossible not to get swept up with Joe and Ann, and a pre-tourist swamped Rome. And while Eddie Albert seems to be known mostly as “the Green Acres guy”, he had some standout film roles too, and this is most definitely one of them. -Sean |
