CineQuote Newsletter #50
Take a trip with CQ. We'll make sure you're safe.

CQ. What a trip.
Whoa, 50 newsletters! Almost a full year of cranking these out! Thanks to everybody who got us here (nefarious Super PACS, of course) and everybody who continues to click “open” when they pop into your inbox. If this is your first newsletter you’re reading, then welcome. There’s a mini game to play at the bottom as well as a recommended movie, and all the stats and numbers about this last week of games. And if you want to go the extra mile, and become a member for five bucks a month, you’ll get a bunch of perks and warm our frosty Mug root beer hearts. If you wanna go back and read all the back issues, or just play the One Shots, then we’ve archived them all and it ain’t no problem. Peruse the past all you please. Here ya be.
Now, before you slice and dice us for doing a movie that started streaming two months ago, know that it did WAY better on CQ than the “esteemed” 34 year old movie that we also did this week. Furthermore, we’ve heard feedback that we aren’t doing enough new movies. Well, there ya go all you demon hunters out there (whether or not you’re associated with the pop music scene) you can’t say all we do is The Great Train Robbery and The Jazz Singer (and we don’t mean the remakes.) Probably won’t do too many more Summer ‘25 movies this next week. Probably….
Let’s rock some “Golden” and pour over the numbers.
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage93.1% | Lowest Win Percentage30.5% |
An overall tough week, with only three movies getting a B or better on their report card. Also was VERY tight in the box score, with two movies almost unanimously known among players, but which cuisine reigned supreme?! In the end, Woody just narrowly beat Woods (Elle), as TOY STORY 3 swooped in like a giant claw and saved everybody. Last I heard, the folks at Legally Blonde have filed an appeal and are demanding a recount, and because it’s within the margin of error, we’ll do a hand recount just to make sure we got it right (…we did.)
THE PRINCE OF TIDES received seven Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Picture. It was based on a best-selling novel by Pat Conroy. The film grossed $74 million in the United States and Canada with $61 million from overseas box offices, for a worldwide total of $135 million. The film was among the top 20 highest-grossing movies of the year at the box office. Did that matter one little bit? Noooooooooooope. One of the lowest win rates in CQ history for a non-Sunday Stumper! Should we have made this a Sunday Stumper? Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. But even that’s low percentage for a Sunday. See, look, there’s Pacino’s CRUISING with its 41% win rate, pointing and laughing at poor Prince of Tides. Sorry, gang. Not sure what to tell ya other than we see how you feel about Barbara WaWa. Y’all can rest assured though, if this comes up again we’re just gonna go with Nick Nolte saying the title for all five quotes.
Ace of the Week12.6%“They've cracked down hard since you left. More guards, more patrols. You and your friends ain't ever getting out of here now.” |
We really thought we’d red herring’d you good on this one. Alas, 12.6% of you weren’t fooled. That means TS3 went 2/2 this week in winning Ace rate and Win rate. Star Command would be proud. Maybe you know this already, but voice actor Teddy Newton who did Chatter Telephone in TOY STORY 3 was also did the voice of this guy from Ratatouille. Hope that trivia wins you some money some day.
Here are the numbers for all the games last week.
Movie | Win % | Ace % |
---|---|---|
Toy Story 3 (2010) | 93.1% | 12.6% |
Legally Blonde (2001) | 92.6% | 4.4% |
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) | 88.6% | 3.2% |
KPop Demon Hunters (2025) | 74.5% | 2.7% |
Porky's (1981) | 78.7% | 6.3% |
Cruising (1980) | 41.3% | 2.2% |
The Prince of Tides (1991) | 30.5% | 2.3% |
CQ Recommends

See some nature before binging every season of that show your friend wants you to “catch up on.”
A globe-sprawling documentary expertly photographing scenes of human life and religion. Sadly, the MK character doesn’t make a cameo, HOWEVER… Baraka is a fantastic look without commentary at the world. It’s difficult to explain this movie. How bout this: imagine if a camera was invisible and could go anywhere and the intentions of the filmmakers were noble. That’s basically Baraka. -Sean |
