CineQuote Newsletter #51
Everyone's invited to dinner with CineQuote.

EXTRA EXTRA! We’re three games away from #1000! Set your clocks for Wednesday as CineQuote will be doing a movie we’ve never done before to honor the big day. To coincide with us hitting quadruple digits, we’re counting on you, yes YOU, to help spread the CQ joy to your friends and family (and enemies if you occasionally text them.) Furthermore, after our fallout with both Highlights Magazine and Cat Fancy (long story), we’re really hoping to entreat some new media and journalistic connections. So, if you know of someone you might be able to publish a few words about little ol CineQuote online or in print, we’d really appreciate it!
Don’t know of anyone? That’s okay. BUT if you do, or know of someone who might know someone who might know someone, get a hold of us here: [email protected].
Is there a do-gooder out there amongst y’all? Here’s hoping! Alrighty, let’s look at the stats from last week.
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage96.3% | Lowest Win Percentage16.6% |
Most CQ players this week double-checked their bathroom for Wahlbergs as y’all got that tingly feeling on the back of your neck, helping THE SIXTH SENSE cruise to a 96.3% win rate. Things started slow but right answers seemed to spike when we first heard little Cole Sear’s voice talking to his psychiatrist. No spoilers, but I think everything is gonna work out fine for those two.
![]() | We were thinking of little Wyatt Russell this week, sitting at home at the age of four or so, wondering where his mom was all day. Well, buddy, back in the early 90s Mommy went to work on a movie called DECEIVED that noooooooooooobody remembers judging by the cellar-floor score of 16.6% win rate. Was it worth it, Goldie? Huh!? Leaving little Wyatt all alone (presumably) while you hunted down a husband you thought was dead who maybe wasn’t the man you thought he was? CQ players would probably have called CPS on you considering how many win streaks this killed. Sorry, everybody, this was a sticky one. Probably won’t be hearing from Deceived again. We hope Wyatt comes back to the game once he’s had time to heal… |
Ace of the Week
24.3%

Daniel Brühl as Fredrick Zoller trying to make a connection with Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent.)
[translated into English]
“Listen, you seem like an agreeable enough fellow.”
“Thank you.”
“You're welcome. Regardless, I want you to stop pestering me.”
“I apologize, miss. I wasn't trying to be a pest. I was simply trying to be friendly.”
“I don't wish to be your friend.”
“Why not?”
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (spelled correctly here) secured the top Ace award, and while we tried to obfuscate the Nazis for as long as possible with some French dialogue, keen-eared players zeroed in on Daniel Brühl and Mélanie Laurent gabbin’ it up and knew the scene. Heaven knows we had our share of accents in this one, even ones that hail from the village in the shadow of Piz Palü. How to lower that Ace rate next time the Basterds return will be a challenge for our team.
Here are the numbers for all the games last week.
Movie | Win % | Ace % |
---|---|---|
The Sixth Sense (1999) | 96.3% | 10.4% |
Inglourious Basterds (2009) | 89.3% | 24.3% |
White Men Can't Jump (1992) | 88.9% | 4.7% |
Minions (2015) | 76.8% | 7.9% |
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) | 71.6% | 2.8% |
While You Were Sleeping (1995) | 68.1% | 5.5% |
Deceived (1991) | 16.6% | 1.6% |
CQ Recommends

We recommend skipping Villain-Con this year.
German journalist Philip Winter encounters a woman and her nine year old daughter Alice trying to leave the U.S. The three become friends (almost out of necessity) and while the mother asks Winter to mind Alice temporarily, it quickly becomes apparent that Alice will be his responsibility for longer than he expected. If you can get past the repetitive and, at times, grating score, this quiet little Wim Wenders film does so many things right, especially casting nine year old Yella Rottländer as its titular hero. What a lovely film. -Sean |
