CineQuote Newsletter #56

Diane Keaton: class act.

Diane Keaton left us. We at CineQuote always liked her, and we were in the majority as pretty much everyone liked Diane Keaton. Not only a terrific actor, but also a director, producer, activist, photographer, fashion icon, and by all accounts, a great person. If you know what we do here, you know what to expect over the next week or two.

Also, it’s Spooky Season, and while the first twelve days of October weren’t exactly bursting with horror movies, we’re gonna ramp that up a bit over the next three weeks. Will every movie be scary? No. Will some? Oh yes. Too bad Diane Keaton didn’t do a lot of horror movies otherwise we’d have quite a double up theme.

Finally, there’s a slew of Comic-Cons going on around the country right now. Feel free to give our newest Game Pack a go, featuring 31 (!!!) classic CQ games of comic book movies. https://cinequote.net/packs/comic-con

Overkill? Perhaps, a skoosh.

The Hard Way (1991)

Two movies with red font about big-city cops… two very different results. Pop quiz hotshot, what 1994 action movie made 350 million dollars worldwide off a budget of only 30 million? That’s right. SPEED made boocoo bucks, despite the R rating, typically not as lucrative for studios as a PG or PG-13. With a 97% win rate, seems everyone knew which runaway-bus movie we were showcasing. 3% of you must have flashed that Jeff Daniels face when the correct answer popped up….

Gulp.

And despite Delroy Lindo saying, “You got two ways to deal with this. You got the easy way, you got the hard way” in Quote 5 pretty much nobody got the Sunday Stumper right, wherein Michael J. Fox learning the ropes of being under a cop under James Woods in THE HARD WAY. This was softly parodied in an episode of The Simpsons in which James Woods wanted to learn the ways of the Kwik-E-Mart from Apu. This might be the best thing to come out of the movie The Hard Way.

"Thanks for pushing that, Bob. The light's on, but you never know, it really might be broken.”

“Shut up.”

Another pop quiz, hotshot. How many times does one need to see Speed in order to get an Ace on this quote? Don’t lose your head, we don’t know the answer, but 7.2% of y’all getting this on quote 1 is outstanding. Didn’t think elevator banter was that memorable, and yet…

The Dead Don’t Hurt (2003)

Two pioneers fight for their lives and their love on the American frontier during the Civil War.

We all knew Vicky Krieps could act, but who knew Viggo Mortensen could write and direct? Well, Vicky Krieps apparently did as she agreed to star in this low-budget gritty Western that really runs out of damns to give early on. Tough way of life back then. Still is I reckon.
