CineQuote Newsletter #60

Like a chainmail, but you know... good.

Word of Locklear

So last week there was an unexpected spike in CineQuote play. Why, on the Sunday Stumper of all days, did nearly three thousand more people than normal play the game? We don’t know. We kinda wish it was on a day that wasn’t so difficult (see below), but whatever the reason, we’re gonna chalk it up to YOU! The whole “you tell two friends, and they tell two friends, and they tell two friends” approach that worked so well with good, full-bodied shampoo back in the day seems to be paying dividends with the friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man of daily movie games (that’d be us.)

We got some big developments heading your way, so please continue what you’re doing and send us on over to your friends, foes, family, faculty, fellows, or favorite film fiends. Thanks to everyone who’s helping to spread the word. And by the way, your hair is looking terrific today.

There’s nothing to worry about. We will take good care of you. After all, we’re your number one fan. You didn’t disappoint either, sledgehammering your way to a 93.5% win rate for MISERY. That means that unfortunately 6.5 % of you are either dirty birdies or you didn’t get out of the COCKADOODIE CAR! Win or lose, you better start showing Misery a little appreciation, MR. MAN!

Despite it being the actual Day of the Dead last weekend, two thirds of players had no idea what George Romeo Zombie flick we were doing. If you’re ever in a jam, it might be prudent to think to yourself, “Hey, maybe CineQuote are being cute by doing something related to today’s holiday. Is today even a holiday? Oh yeah, it’s Day of the Dead. I dunno, maybe I should just type that in to the guessbar in case they think they’re being funny or something. Oh would you look at that! DAY OF THE DEAD is the right answer! Who knew!”*

Ace of the Week

18.1%

“Fine day, Sunday. In my opinion, best day of the week.”

Richard Griffiths (“Dicky Griff” to his chums) acted across every medium, ratcheting up credits with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and dozens of TV and film credits going back to the mid 70s. And although we here at CQ like to think of him first and foremost as Dr. Albert S. Meinheimer from The Naked Gun 2 1⁄2: The Smell of Fear or Duncan Phipps from King Ralph, it was his role of the Harry Potter avuncular muggle (or mugglish uncle?) over five movies that most movie fans know him from. So when his voice popped up in the first clue many zeroed in on the franchise, but only true Pure-bloods knew we were doing the alpha.

Here are the numbers for all the games last week.

CQ Recommends

We recommend yielding to hovercraft.

Train Dreams (2025)

A logger leads a life of quiet grace during an era of monumental change in early 20th-century America.

An atypical recent recommendation, as Train Dreams is a 2025 release, but it’s important to not let this one slip by unheralded. Clint Bentley’s second feature ranks in the top spot for me for movies this year at press time, and despite the brutality and harshness, there’s an astute delicacy in which he handles the life of Robert Grainier. Don’t sleep on this one.
