CineQuote Newsletter #61

"For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack."

A chat about Packs. You got your packs of gum, your packs of playing cards, your packs of cigarettes. There are backpacks, icepacks, sixpacks. You can have a pack of Cub scouts, of wolves, of herding animals, or even a pack of rebellious miscreant youths. We here at CineQuote really only talk about one type of Pack, and that’s the Game Packs we put together of past games. It’s a chance for folks new to CineQuote to play more games than just today’s. Right now there’s a Welcome Pack with 5 classic games, as well as a totally-oversized Pack of 31 comic book movies. There’s even a Pack for Members featuring four deep-cut vampire movies. However you score on the Packs don’t affect your stats, and they are just a bonus feature to the featured game of the day. You can even send Packs over to the unenlightened friends of yours that haven’t made CQ a part of their day.

Today though, we’re doing something special. We’re unveiling two new Members-Only Packs with movies never before showcased on CQ! One features three romcoms from the romcom bonanza age of the 2000s. The other Pack is three action/crime thrillers from Asia. These are meant to be hard, so don’t beat yourself up if you don’t get any. Check out what’s available on the Game Packs tab. Again, they don’t affect your pristine statistics. Join up here. Thanks to everyone who’s CineQuoting, and a special tip of the cap to our Members out there. Welcome to the club, er, pack. :)

Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022)

We employed all hands on deck to come up with difficult starter quotes to THE LITTLE MERMAID, but the Disney blood runs deep in many of you, and despite their being some other mermaid and mermen related options out there, there wasn’t much we could do to hide Ariel’s prized voice. 5.2% of players and NOT part of that world…
One more thing, as much as we love Jodi Benson over here at CQ, we’d like to give a special shoutout to actor (and early megacrush) Sherri Stoner who was vital in modeling for Ariel’s animation.

There are three D.A. movies out now, two of which were selectable in the game. So if you caught Barrow’s name in Quote 4 it put you in the driver’s seat to do process of elimination. Yet, most folks had to hear Downton name-dropped in Quote 5 and then just flip a coin, some lucking out and landing on DOWNTON ABBEY: A NEW ERA. For those skeptics out there who think they could never get involved in a show (or film) about a rich British aristocratic family and their servants in the early 20th century, well, we were once like you, and now look at us!

Our devotion to D.A. can only be expressed via back tatts.

Ace of the Week

“Never get out of bed, never go to the window, and never look behind the curtain.”

Unless you’re a diehard player of the Doom video games, to most people the initials BFG stand for Big Friendly Giant, and so hearing giants mentioned in Quote 4 narrowed the scope of movie options. Considering how many things out there children could be scared of in the cinematic world, we were mammothly impressed with this winning Ace of the Week. Roald would be proud of you 8% out there!

Here are the numbers for all the games last week.

CQ Recommends

We recommend a warm hat and mittens for this year’s winter brawl at Paradise Square.

Insomnia (1997)

In a Norwegian city with a 24-hour daylight cycle, Swedish detectives investigate a teen's death.

Stellan Skarsgård has been acting on screens since (checking notes…) 1968!, and while most American audiences got their first glimpse of him in Hunt for Red October as the “arrogant ass” bad guy, the late 90s really starting picking up for the Swede with Breaking the Waves, Good Will Hunting, and this dark and moody crime thriller. Insomnia would get the big Hollywood remake eventually, but the original is especially unsettling. Just in time for the holidays!
