Our Penultimate Hello of 2025

Air Bud 15: Life’s Ruff!
Say what you will about the other daily movie games out there (and if you think they’re better than CQ by God that’s your right), but not too many of them have the gall, the moxie, nay we say the fearlessness to give you a week featuring There Will Be Blood and The Revenant in the same week we give you Air Bud 2: Golden Receiver. You think we’re afraid to give you Citizen Kane followed by Baby Geniuses? Ha! You think we’re not gonna give you The Wings of the Dove and Rambo III in the same week? Or four straight days of Police Academy movies followed by Kieślowski's "Three Colors Trilogy"? Doubt us at your own peril…
Like any good small business, we ought to be taking some time off for the holidays. Perhaps put up an Out of Office notice on the CineQuote homepage and abscond off to the white sand beaches of Saint Lucia, a winery tour through sun-dappled Napa Valley, or the fancy yet rustic Skamania Lodge for some luxurious R&R in king sized beds. Alas, we are instead throwing caution aside, getting the brake off and forging headfirst into a full week of action. Some Christmas movies await, along with some secular standouts. Are we in need of a vacation? Surely, but you come first, dearies, and if by chance you want to make good on your year end donation cap, we aren’t exactly gonna put up a fight… Let’s snuggle up with last week’s numbers, shall we?
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage90.3% | Lowest Win Percentage47.1% |
Before we talk the Ace of the Week, we’ll give the Griswolds their day at the pool. NATIONAL LAMPOON’S CHRISTMAS VACATION is usually on TV on a loop through the month of December so it’s no surprise this movie jingled players’ memories. The 90 percent threshold is a tough benchmark no matter how much this has become a staple of the holidays. It didn’t ever seem to matter that they swap out Russ and Audrey every movie, this one in particular has seemed to endure the nearly four decades since its release. We promise to always save the neck for you.
Colman Domingo, who is currently in theaters playing the gameshow host in the new Running Man, received a lot of award consideration for his role as an incarcerated playwright and actor. That didn’t seem to help much as CQ players waded (and drowned) through a tough Sunday Stumper. We couldn’t exactly name-drop the prison (SING SING) as that would have been too easy, thus we were really limited as to what quotes we could give you. Sorry fam. Don’t shiv us. The co-writer of this screenplay directed a movie called Train Dreams that’s on Netflix now and you should definitely watch it (like other hidden gems it showed up on our Recommendation section in the newsletter a month ago).
Ace of the Week
32.8%
“Get me somebody. Anybody. And get me somebody while I'm waiting.”
Ok. So we’re giving you the most polite golf clap over here at CQHQ for absolutely CRUSHING our first quote of NLCV. The last time an Ace was this high of a percentage was probably the first time we did Home Alone. In fact, that score was SO high we came right back the next week and did Home Alone again with 5 new quotes. The Ace rate that second time dive-bombed from 51.6% to 12.5%. Are we saying we’re gonna do that with CHRISTMAS VACATION? No. Are we not saying we’re gonna do that? No. Know that whenever it does come up, we’re gonna find out who is hooter/hotter than the others, and who out there can’t see the line.
Here are the numbers for all the games last week.

|---|---|---|
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) | 90.3% | 32.8% |

Air Bud: Golden Receiver (1998) | 69.6% | 2.0% |
Moulin Rouge! (2001) | 61.1% | 8.4% |

CQ Recommends

CineQuote recommends you “Just Dog It.”
A young Maori girl fights to fulfill a destiny her grandfather refuses to recognize. Back before she found her way into Westeros as Obara Sand, the eldest child of Prince Oberyn Martell, Keisha Castle-Hughes held the record (for about ten years) as the youngest person nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. This was the role she received that nom for, and it was more than well deserved. Does the title imply literal whale-riding, or is it some traditional metaphor evoking a courageous yet communicative approach to life? Well, I guess you’ll just have to see the movie now won’t you? (sure, you can spoil it for yourself by Googling, but that wouldn’t be very whaleridish of you. -Sean |
