"Don't CineQuote Angry"

Well, it’s 6 a.m… Again.
Yeah, well, I guess you may have predicted we were gonna do Groundhog Day on Groundhog Day. There may have been some like-minded rapscallions out there who thought there would be a chance we’d do it again the next day. And yet, after much back and forth deliberation about whether or not to continue with the joke ultimately… oops, we did it again. While some of you were tiffed, irate, and/or frustrated, deep down you wouldn’t respect us if we didn’t go for it. Now let’s take a peek at those stats for the week:
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage98.9% | Lowest Win Percentage34.6% |
We had some fun this week. Thanks for everybody playing along and not raiding our local outposts with pitchforks and flaming torches, demanding we hand over an intern or two for y’all to quench your bloodlust. Running GROUNDHOG DAY three consecutive days in a row is something we were morally compelled to do. IN OUR DEFENSE, outside of the first quote, every other quote was different. That means that, all told, you could have heard thirteen different quotes from the movie, not including hearing Sonny & Cher on the Win Quote. And if you were among the 1.1 % who, for whatever reason, couldn’t come up with the correct choice on the last day that we did this… Hell. We just wanna say… It gets better. Keep your chin up. And if you wanna admit to it, and give us an explanation how that could happen, please write in to our Feedback form and we’ll get ya a free CQ t-shirt or something. We’d have to MAKE a CQ t-shirt first, of course, but if it helps dry the tears, so be it. Also, would people buy a CineQuote t-shirt if we made them? Asking on behalf of our eager merchandise guy we have yet to hire. Let us know via feedback on your Profile tab.
FIELD OF DREAMS went the distance and eased everyone’s pain. This normally would have been the winner of the week were it not for Phil Connors and company.
COOL HAND LUKE gave people some problems, even though it’s one of the only movies that should ping your memory center when someone uses the number “50” and the food “eggs” together.
And bringing up the rear was the 1984 “what if you could go into someone’s dreams and help them or make them change their mind” sci-fi / romantic (?!?!?!) thriller DREAMSCAPE with a pitiful 34.6%. Our friends over at the Unkind Rewind Podcast covered this awhile back and it’s certainly worth inviting your friends over for a slumber party, cooking up a frozen pizza, drinking way too much soda, and putting on “all smarm-no charm”* Dennis Quad as he slinks his way out of a quasi sexual assault on Kate Capshaw. If that sentence makes no sense whatsoever, the podcast will help (but not altogether cure.)

Ace of the Week84.9%“Most of my work is with couples, families. I have an alcoholic now.” |
And almost 85% Ace rate on this. Hmmm. Nope. Nothing abnormal about that at all. No need to comment further. We’re very, very impressed. This score is not likely to ever be topped. Except…maybe early February of 2027? We couldn’t. We wouldn’t. Or would we?
Here are the numbers for all the games last week.
CineQuote Movie | Win % | Ace % |
|---|---|---|
Groundhog Day (1993) | 98.9% | 84.9% |
Groundhog Day (1993) | 98.1% | 12.9% |
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) | 95.5% | 17.7% |
Groundhog Day (1993) | 94.1% | 59.8% |
Field of Dreams (1989) | 93.1% | 3.9% |
Cool Hand Luke (1967) | 65.5% | 4.1% |
Dreamscape (1984) | 34.6% | 2.7% |
CQ Recommends

We recommend staying under a half dozen.
Short documentary based on the experiences of writer Cathy Linh Che’s parents, two Vietnam War refugees who, while in a refugee camp in the Philippines, were utilized as background extras in Apocalypse Now. Normally a space for features, this week I’m recommending a great one that was shortlisted, but just missed being one of this year’s five nominees for the Best Documentary Short Film. This is somehow touching, traumatic, sensitive, and humorously nostalgic, and although I myself don’t have Vietnamese parents (unfortunately), I could see traces of my own mom and dad in Hoa and Hue. I’ll save you the search and link the movie here. If you have 15 minutes today, it’s well worth your time. -Sean |

You will always remember this as the day you *almost* Aced CineQuote…
