79 and Sunny

Too many movies. Vitamin D levels at critical lows.
We recovered from Awards Season (somewhat) and our color is finally returning. Maybe this week, we’ll even get some sun. Or barring that, we’ll watch Danny Boyle’s Sunshine, but sitting very close to the TV.
Do not fret and pace, or even pace and fret, if you thought last week was tough. It was. But like a ship that has run too close to Scylla, we’re gonna crank the wheel hard left and see if we can keep in right smack in the middle of too easy and too difficult. Of course, Charybdis is a hazard never gone forever, so cut us some slack if we over-correct and it’s a week where everyone’s getting Aces like they’re coupons in the mail.
Oh, and Olá, Bom Dia! to all the new Portuguese-speaking players that found our app recently. Not sure where you came from, how you found us, but we’re sure glad you’re here. Maybe we’ll drop a Brazilian or Portuguese movie in the queue, just for you.
Also, last month we unveiled the Triple Play for our Members to play! As promised here’s another one:
This is a Member-Exclusive game. If you want to give it a shot, click that profile tab and help support this plucky little underdog of a mobile game by becoming a Member for $5 a month (less than a quarter a day.) Thank you, thank you, thank you! We would love to see ya onboard.
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage95.2% | Lowest Win Percentage47.7% |
Well when you add up London + bear + marmalade, you’re gonna get a PADDINGTON movie (or some kind of experimental Peter Greenway film that is going take a while to forget). Luckily, for everyone, we went with Paddington. Oh, and it’s Paddington, not Paddleton. Although that IS a movie featuring a Duplass brother and a Romano brother. It deals with terminal cancer, so probably not something best suited for Peruvian bears in toggle duffel coats. Or maybe it is, hell, who knows anymore…
This was perhaps too new, and the quotes a tad too murky for people to think why is this robot talking to animals. Well, that robot is Lupita Nyong’o and she’s in the wild. You might just say, she’s an UNDOMESTICATED AUTOMATON!* This is the movie that seemed to have the Oscar for Best Animated Feature wrapped up last year til Flow rolled in and walked out the big winner. You should check out Flow, by the way, even though it’s going to be almost impossible for it to find its way onto CineQuote, wink wink (if you know… you know.)
*(name later changed for brevity)
As for the rest:
Boyz n the Hood: We mentioned “hood” in the last quote. And there certainly wasn’t a leprechaun voice anywhere about, so we’re curious what people tried with their last guess if they didn’t try this.
Midnight Cowboy: A 69% win rate on a movie that came out in 1969. Nice!
Anora: Oscar winner maybe, but more importantly this was a big CineQuote loser last week with an abysmal win rate. We’re sorry, Sean Baker! We tried, we really did! To be fair, players did better with this than they did with Baker’s The Florida Project (55%).
Tangerine, ya got your work cut out for yourself!
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: Hmm. We’re assuming you all were so emotionally wrecked by this movie that you visited a lab and erased the memory of you ever having seen it. That seems to be the only explanation for why this win rate was so low. We’d recommend seeing it again (or for the first time), and then going through the process only AFTER we bring it back on CQ.
Ace of the Week14.8%“Crazy, huh? Ran away about a year ago. The Knutsons told me I should show her this when I found her. It's the family farm. It's outside Moorhead, Minnesota. They think it'll make her homesick.” |
We banked damn near everything that once you heard Sam Elliot wax poetic about “the Dude” it was game, set, match. Surprisingly, just over 2/3rds of players got THE BIG LEWBOWSKI despite it winning Ace of the Week. That means that while it may still seem a tad downbank from the mainstream, the players who know it more or less know it by heart. These are the same people who don’t roll on Shabbos, can tell a nice marmot when they see one, and know a doctor who’s a good man (…and thorough).
Here are the numbers for all the games last week.
CineQuote Movie | Win % | Ace % |
|---|---|---|
Paddington (2014) | 95.2% | 5.2% |
| 74.2% | 2.0% |
Midnight Cowboy (1969) | 68.9% | 1.1% |
The Big Lebowski (1998) | 67.6% | 14.8% |
Anora (2024) | 62.9% | 7.5% |
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) | 52.2% | 4.2% |
The Wild Robot (2024) | 47.8% | 7.6% |
CQ Recommends

We recommend stopping for pedestrians who are walkin’ here!
Hands on a Hardbody (1997) | Filmmaker S.R. Bindler profiles Texas contestants trying to win a truck by keeping one hand on it longer than everyone else. Long before there was Mr. Beast (and his ilk) there was a contest in Texas to win a pickup truck by keeping your hand on it. Not sure what’s crazier, that people have and will always put themselves through hell for a prize or that they made a musical based on this documentary with music from Phish’s Trey Anastasio, had a short run on Broadway and featured… (double-checking my notes…) Keith Carradine?! All true things, but maybe just see the doc. -Sean |
