CineQuote Newsletter #84
Rock out with CQ

“We are Cine Qu-Quote and we're here to make you think about movies and get nostalgic and stuff!"
This week in Movie History… The Seven Samurai was released (1954), Gladiator premiered (2000) and Avengers: Endgame became the first movie to ever breach 1 billion dollars (billion with a b) its opening weekend. Granted, that weekend was 5 days (Wed-Sun) and it took 350 million domestically and 859 million from the international box office to do it, but dammit, they did it. All with a snap of their fingers.
Did you know that this week is also National Tell A Friend About CineQuote Week?! Oh wait. That’s every week. Our bad. But hey, don’t let that stop ya from bringing in your bandmates, roadies, sound guys, and personal superfans.
Thanks to our new CQ Members who joined up this week! You make us kind of feel like we’re on drugs. Not that we do drugs. Unless you do drugs, in which case we do them all the time. All of them.
Last month we unveiled the Triple Play for you Members to test yourselves. As promised here’s another one:
These are the Member-Exclusive mini games we’re going to be providing each week via the Newsletter, so if you wanna be one of the coolest kids at the lunch table, click that profile tab and help support this plucky little underdog of a mobile game by becoming a Member for $5 a month (less than a quarter a day.) Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Alrighty. Let’s talk numbers:
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage90.0% ![]() TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR (2023) | Lowest Win Percentage59.8% |
Burying this movie in front of three soundbites of direct-to-audience patter took some surgical precision over at H.Q., and somehow we were able to mask arguably (or even inarguably?) the most famous woman on the planet until Quote 4. We’re sure there was a lot of “Oh, of course”-isms after hearing her state her name. This marks the second time she’s made an appearance on CineQuote (first being Miss Americana). THE ERAS TOUR however does not have a lot of spoken dialogue and we pretty much used all of it so fat chance seeing this one back here anytime soon, but do know Tom Hooper’s Cats (featuring Tay Tay) is still lurking about the unplayed movie file…
We kept Bradley Cooper’s voice out of the quotes, and unsurprisingly, that did not help things. Sorry Maestro, we’ll learn from this. J-Law, though, did get some quote love, but CQ players had a tough time unearthing the movie title. Respectfully, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK is a bizarre phrase that doesn’t get uttered once in the movie (we think), and that complicates things when you’re sitting there at quote 5 trying to figure out what a movie about NFL games and amateur dance competitions could be called… (Two Feet Conversion? Extra Pointe Shoes? Waltz into the Endzone?!)
Ace of the Week14.7%“You think I deserve to wear white?” “Honey, we all deserve to wear white.” |
Susan Sarandon’s husky, calm, molassesy voice you’d think would have been cultivated in the tobacco fields of the South, fitting for a movie that takes place in and around Durham, North Carolina, but hot damn, she’s a Queens, New York girl (the kind Eddie Murphy was looking for perhaps?) Sarandon was born in Jackson Heights, moved to New Jersey as a kid, and didn’t make it to Virginia til she was 22. Maybe it’s just us who are surprised by this revelation, but needless to say, her voice carries through the entirety of BULL DURHAM, even when she’s not on screen, and righty so.
Here are the numbers for all the games last week.
CineQuote Movie | Win % | Ace % |
|---|---|---|
TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR (2023) | 90.0% | 2.7% |
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) | 89.4% | 11.1% |
Inside Out 2 (2024) | 83.2% | 4.2% |
Bridesmaids (2011) | 78.3% | 14.3% |
Bull Durham (1988) | 71.4% | 15.3% |
Das Boot (1981) | 61.8% | 12.3% |
Silver Linings Playbook (2012) | 59.8% | 7.8% |
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World has 1,000 good quotes we didn’t use, so don’t hold a grudge if we didn’t use your faves. Just saving ‘em for next time. Glad this fared as high as it did. The world needs more smart comedies, even if they gotta be pulled from graphic novels and comic books.
Inside Out 2 actually was expected to claim the top spot being that it’s Disney / Pixar and when it comes to those movies on CQ, it’s basically Godzilla meeting Tokyo. They CRUSH.
Bridesmaids had a GREAT Ace score then pretty much kept a plateau throughout the rest of the clues. Rumors swirled for awhile of a sequel but seems to have cooled off, despite the reunion at the Oscars of 5 outta 6 main actresses from it. The hilarious W.M.C. woulda been the 6th but she admittedly was recovering.
Das Boot had a stout Ace rate, then trailed off (or sunk, if you will) thereafter. Definitely check it out if you haven’t. In fact, we ALMOST made it the movie in the Recommendation Corner down below but pivoted at the last second.
CQ Recommends

Director Wolfgang Petersen’s Das Boot shoulder press: He recommends drei sets of fünf-sieben reps with zwei minutes rest in between. Ya vol!
This film documents the coal miners’ strike against the Brookside Mine of the Eastover Mining Company in Harlan County, Kentucky in June, 1973. We don’t hear Barbara Kopple’s name enough nowadays, but when she was 30 she released Harlan County USA, her directorial debut, and it still packs a wallop today. Back then, the workers were being taken advantage of by the much more powerful company. Crazy time, those 1970s huh? -Sean |
