CineQuote Newsletter # 85

CineQuote is powered by precious tritium, and of course, players like you.

CQ, an exponential increase in energy output.

Hello CQ beauties. A tough week, last one was, so don’t feel bad if you were a tad overwhelmed. We’ll ease off the throttle a bit as we get into May so you can bump up that personal win rate, build a streak, and maybe, just maybe, get lucky…with an Ace.

We recommend paying close attention to that 5th quote, there’s often a clue there that’ll help you even if you haven’t seen the movie. We also recommend: getting some good sleep, stretching in the morning, always ordering the fish special, finishing the chapter before closing the book for the night, wearing your seatbelt even for short trips, bringing a portable phone charger, using a dab of cooking oil on those squeaky hinges, paying a little extra for quality socks, carrying a lucky two dollar bill in your wallet for emergencies, and of course, not starting a movie if it’s too late at night and you’re just gonna fall asleep 10 minutes in like you friggin know you are.

Lastly, welcome aboard to all our new CQ Members! We’re so happy you signed up. Anybody else out there who is thinking about it, it’s 5 bucks a month, and the benefits (improved circulation, more blood flow, less headaches) are countless. Recently we unveiled the Triple Play for our Members to play! As promised here’s another one:

These are the Member-Exclusive mini games provide each week here in the Newsletter, so if you wanna be one of the coolest kids at the lunch table, click that profile tab and help support this plucky little underdog of a mobile game by becoming a Member for $5 a month (less than a quarter a day.) Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Alrighty. Let’s talk numbers:

Last Week’s Highlights

Highest Win Percentage

94.2%

The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Lowest Win Percentage

28.1%

Cloak & Dagger (1984)

The sequel just premiered, so perhaps this movie was on our collective lips, but 94.2% is a staggering win rate. THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA had a very nice week, winning the Ace rate category as well. Y’all know your Priestlys, Sachs, Charltons, and Nigels VERY well.

CLOAK & DAGGER was the movie young Henry Thomas did right after E.T., but just a fraction of you were aware it even existed. Hailing from the Golden Age of 1980s “kindertrauma”, it really is chock full of situations that a kid (even a kid actor) should definitely not be in. Our friends over at the Unkind Rewind Podcast covered this movie thoroughly (and hilariously) if you are curious.

The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Ace of the Week

14.7%

“There's, like, $8 of Jarlsberg in there.”

Pretty sure were it not for the revisionist history that made this character the real villain of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, this first quote would have been a bit more obscure, but given how Nate (booooooooooooooooooooo!) has aged, people recall all his verbal machinations (manipulations?) Assuming also that originally the cheese in question was a Gruyère, and not a Jarlsberg, but after casting a Grenier, they had to make an edit to the script.

Here are the numbers for all the games last week.

Spider-Man 2 tried its damndest, but couldn’t hold back the runaway train car that was The Devil Wears Prada. Not sure its spidey-sense was even aware of the fashionable danger that was walking down the hallway.

Twelve Monkeys garnered the first Academy Award nomination for Brad Pitt, and probably represents the last time Brad Pitt was able to be cast in a movie at a “reasonable/affordable” price. While filming this movie, Se7en, Interview with a Vampire, and Legends of the Fall had yet to come out. After those, his rate went considerably up.

The Ten Commandments could have been guessed correctly even if you didn’t know what movies are. You could have just heard the name Moses and figured it out, and if that was you we’re very curious how you happened upon a movie-centric app...

The Secret of NIMH probably should have been a Sunday Stumper, but we wanted to believe there was more Don Bluth lovers out there that perhaps there are. This guy basically shook Disney’s animation department to its core. He’s also the one behind An American Tail and thus, why the animation looks so similar. We also didn’t want to use the word NIHM in a quote because that’s too easy, right? You don’t want us to do that to ya… right?

Boy oh boy, we really thought more people were gonna get The Favourite. Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, and the great Olivia Coleman, and yet, not a lot of respect for the work of Yoooooorrrrrrgoooossssss. That last clue did talk about favour, and thus, we were hoping that would be the nudge you needed to at least get in the ballpark. 53 percent though is a little disheartening. If you haven’t seen the movie, maybe you’ll be encouraged after watching Coleman’s very true to self Oscar speech.
