Post-Oscar hangover

The Oscars, and the year’s award shows, are over. Congrats to all the winners, and near-winners. All in all, we’re content with how things shaped out last night. If we could be so greedy, we only would have asked Sean Baker to add in a line about how everybody needs to turn off their damn phone in the theater. Hopefully, our CQ fam out there respects the sanctity of the dark theater space, and how disruptive a single phone can be. But boy, it sure does give us the fits when we see rude behavior. They may think they’re not annoying anyone because they’re being quiet and only checking a text or an email, ….but they’re wrong. Annoying everyone around ‘em, that’s what they’re doing. So. Keep your phone tucked away for the movie. Gotta check a text? Go to the lobby. There, CineQuote’s speech over and done with, and yeah, we’re gonna die on that hill.
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage 95.2% | Lowest Win Percentage 28.6% |
PRETTY WOMAN, stop awhile, as everybody knows this movie like the back of their hand. 95.2% win rate is ridiculous for a thirty-five (yes, thirty-five) year old non-Disney movie, but the ballad of Edward and Vivian was music to y’all’s ears.
Oh, speaking of Disney… TOGO took a big old bite outta players this week. The true(ish)-story of sled dogs getting diphtheria medication across the frozen Alaskan tundra and icesheets only registered a 28.6% win rate. This is DESPITE it a) being the movie we recommended just last week and b) us dropping Togo’s name twice in the final clue. So if there’s a lesson here, it’s please read the newsletters (and yes, even our recommendation corner) as it may help you in the game. Another lesson would be that we occasionally name drop the title in the final clue on hard days. Too many people got so tripped up by the quote with Balto’s name that they barely listened to that last quote, the quote where Willem Dafoe is scra-REEEEMING the right answer. Oh, and for the record, we ain’t EVER doing Balto. That dog can kick rocks. We’re Togo people here and proud of it. Screw you, Balto.
Most Aced Movie 14.8% ![]() | Y’all know your INCEPTION apparently. As 14.8% of players got it on the first quote. Or did you? Maybe it was just a dream and you actually didn’t win that day at all? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? “Ah, so this is your idea of losing a tail, huh? Different tail.” Be sure and check your little totem later on to make sure it definitely positively wasn’t a dream… |
CQ Recommends

It’s recommendin’ time!
An isolated lake, where an old monk lives in a small floating temple. The monk has a young boy living with him, learning to become a monk. We watch as seasons and years pass by. “Director Kim Ki-duk doesn’t get talked about enough. Will you watch this movie (and the others he made) and join me in trying to talk about him more often? He’s not with us anymore sadly, but his movies are at least.” - Sean |
