CineQuote Newsletter #87

When you bet it on CineQuote, you can only win.

Good morning beauties, and thanks for sipping your coffee/matcha/Earl Grey/or room temperature tap water (you serial killers you) while you read all the news from CQ that’s fit to digitally print. We were going to make this a physical newsletter that would have been delivered to your door by a kid on a bike, but we still owe him 2 dollars and frankly don’t have it right now (plus he scares us).

We had a fun week seeing new movies, old movies, good ones, bad ones, whatever the hell Hausu is, and then with the rest of the time did some upkeep on ourselves:

  • finally completed 100 situps (after staring last November)

  • hit “expensive violin" color grade for our pre-Summer basecoat tan

  • went down a rabbit hole and watched all the movies about rabbit holes

  • stocked up on Sunny D in case our kid has cool friends over

  • tried and failed to get reimbursed on our meal plan box we forgot to cancel

  • trimmed our sexy bangs

  • sugared our sexy bronze

  • electro-zapped our spines into good posture

  • signed up with a new color theorist

  • and fixed our hanging-bar so we can get back to sleeping like Michael Keaton in Batman (1989), and no, we don't mean Bruce Wayne, we mean Keaton. The man likes it upside down.

And hello there all you new CQ Members who upgraded their membership last week! We’re so happy you signed up. Anybody else out there who is thinking about it, it’s 5 bucks a month, and the benefits (improved circulation, more blood flow, less headaches) are countless. Recently we unveiled the Triple Play for our Members to play! As promised here’s another one:

These are the Member-Exclusive mini games provide each week here in the Newsletter, so if you wanna be one of the coolest kids at the lunch table, click that profile tab and help support this plucky little underdog of a mobile game by becoming a Member for $5 a month (less than a quarter a day.) Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Alrighty. Let’s talk numbers:

Last Week’s Highlights

Highest Win Percentage

86.0%

¡Three Amigos! (1986)

Lowest Win Percentage

64.7%

Quigley Down Under (1990)

We didn't know at the start of the week how people were going to fare, but seeing ¡THREE AMIGOS! take the top spot gives these little buttercups over here the sweetest smile. Also, probably our favorite comedy that begins with an upside down exclamation mark.

QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER is in crazy territory as it bottomed out the week AND won the Ace rate. We're gonna have to figure out a term for that. In the meantime, give this forgotten Western a look and learn why Mr. Quigley never had much use for a pistol…

Ace of the Week

14.7%

“Flower things up, I'll see right through it. so just tell me honestly, are we lost? Nope. I know exactly where we are. That's good. Cause frankly, I was getting a little worried.”

Yes. Only 64.7% of people won this game, but to land above 15% for the Ace rate is astounding. Laura San Giacomo (L.S.G. to her friends, and G.L.S. to dyslexics) had a pretty great 1990, with this and Pretty Woman hitting theaters. Oddly, both movies prominently feature her shooting dingos, yet only in Quigley did those scenes actually make the final cut. Hey, Touchstone Pictures, release the “dingo cut” of Pretty Woman, you cowards!

Here are the numbers for all the games last week.

Before he took his knives out, Rian Johnson was getting bogged down in time travel science with Looper. Players heard Bruce Willis and seemed to narrow down which jump across space and time he was taking, and if you check his filmography, he’s done several.

Not a lot to say about Shark Tale, but it you got as far as Finding Nemo and couldn't think of any more animated fish movies,…you're gonna need a bigger knowledge of cartoons.

The only thing we're gonna say about Indecent Proposal is that 1 million dollars in 1993 is about 2.3 million dollars today. Given the price of gas, we'd definitely consider taking the money for one night with Robert Redford, given all circumstances. Moving on…

Phantom of the Opera is a movie based on a musical that was based on a silent movie that was based on a book that was based on a historical event / apocryphal tale, and no, that is not a run-on sentence. Also, remember that you won't be able to turn around once you get in the Phantom’s gondola on the way to his lair. The canals are too tight. Wait til you get to his dock. There he can flip a bitch, and get you back safely.

Bonnie and Clyde rob banks, and banks rob everyone. Maybe that's why people liked those two so much.

CQ Recommends

We recommend spending a little time with yourself every so often.

Summit of the Gods (2021)

Japanese photo reporter Fukamachi accidentally comes across a camera that may well have belonged to Mallory, a famous mountaineer who disappeared in 1924. However, a stranger comes along and takes the camera before Fukamachi can see the film.

Lovely animation done in realistic style coupled with a great story, there's so much to like about this one. And now, being in this column, you're gonna be able to talk to everyone about it!
