We'll always have West Egg (i.e. Montauk.)

In his blue gardens, men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the Aces.

A day late getting you the news. Sorry. We’ve had half our TVs blasting the World Cup, and the other half on McConnell conspiracy chatter. And if you were getting the Peruvian feed of the World Cup games, those broadcasters were discussing both. The only death or quasi-death that really matters to us over here at CineQuote though is that of Sam Neill. Everyone here LOVED Sam Neill, and his passing, even at the age of 78, has rattled the little cages in which our little hearts reside. We hope to find a time to honor the man, the way we like to, but y’all can take in a movie or interview the man did over his many years in the business and perhaps take some of the sting out of the sadness. Here’s to you, Dr. Grant. They definitely don’t look like six foot turkeys.

A titan has fallen.
There’s so much more to say, and maybe we’ll put it in writing some day, but this week tuckered us out, and we have some wounds to lick. Thank you for your unwavering, unrelenting, uncompromising, and unrivaled kindness since you’ve been with us.
Lastly, welcome aboard to all our new CQ Members! We’re so happy you signed up. Anybody else out there who is thinking about it, it’s 5 bucks a month, and the benefits (improved circulation, more blood flow, less headaches) are countless. Alrighty. Let’s talk numbers:
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage90.6% | Lowest Win Percentage33.6% |
Whether book adaptations fare better on CineQuote because you’re all so damn well-read and can deduce the movie through character names and plot points, or just because they tend to be more popular movies, it…doesn’t….matter. THE GREAT GATSBY breaching the 90 percentile is very impressive, you brainiacs. Maybe we should do all the other F. Scott Fitzgerald movies and you better CRUSH.
According to a poll we just made up, JUDGMENT NIGHT was the 4th most rented R-rated movie by 8th grade boys (or their moms if you had a hardass working the counter) in the 1990s. That didn’t seem to help anybody identify this movie, a movie about four friends who take the wrong off-ramp and end up witnessing a murder and then summarily being chased through a comically crime-ridden Chicago by Dennis Leary and that guy from House of Pain. Maybe if they had gone with the “judgement” version of the spelling this movie would have done better at the box office, with critics, and on CineQuote. Alas.
Ace of the Week14.7%“There's a famous saying by the Baron d'Orchilde, 'When there's blood on the streets, buy property.'” |
Not sure what relevance this quote had to INSIDE MAN, we long since forgot. But dammit, Spike Lee knew it had some staying power hence the 14.7% here.
Some people scoffed at Jodie’s accent here on the French pronunciation, and those people are wrong. Jodie is a national treasure and we will not tolerate mud-slinging, even if it’s justified. Mon Dieu.
Here are the numbers for all the games last week.
Movie | Win % | Ace % |
|---|---|---|
The Great Gatsby (2013) | 90.6% | 2.9% |
The Princess Diaries (2001) | 87.6% | 6.4% |
The Usual Suspects (1995) | 83.5% | 13.6% |
Knives Out (2019) | 81.5% | 12.9% |
Deep Impact (1998) | 80.8% | 7.4% |
Inside Man (2006) | 68.3% | 16.0% |
Judgment Night (1993) | 33.6% | 3.9% |
The Princess Diaries just missed an A grade. We blame the anti-Hathawites who intentionally get her movies wrong to bring down the score. We know you’re out there. Stop it.
The Usual Suspects is really great, even that newer version where they digitally-swapped in Christoper Plummer as Verbal Kint.
Sure, we all know that when “sun’s out, guns out,” but did you know that when “chives out, knives out?” It’s true if you think about it. Oh, and Knives Out woulda done better if those sequels hadn’t gummed up the guessing.
Deep Impact is to Armaggedon what Volcano is to Dante’s Peak. Don’t @ us.
CQ Recommends

We recommend taking a trip to Genovia. Bring home some pears.
![]() The President’s Cake (2025) | In 1990s Iraq, 9-year-old Lamia must bake the President's birthday cake. She scrambles to find ingredients for this compulsory task while facing potential punishment if she fails. Wow, not quite sure how they replicated the zealotry and fervor for Saddam Hussein (under penalty) of the first Iraq war, while still cultivating a non-war focused narrative all centered around a fourth grader. But dammit, they did it. This was terrific and you should watch it alongside someone special who appreciates good foreign film just as much as you do. -Sean |

Just our luck, we finally get some good PR and then the meteor hits...
