Who needs the Tour de France when ya got the Bloomington Little 500!
We were just about to quit doing CineQuote and then Wordle biked passed us and arrogantly teased, “nice try, kid” so just to show them what we’re made of, we have a whole new slate of games for you. Take that, you five letter bastard! (seriously though Wordle, we’re just kidding, please don’t have us killed.)
Another week writing the CQ Newsletter, and dammit all, a million people didn’t suddenly sign up in the last few days. But hey, that’s okay! At least we’re still having fun making sweetass CQ related gifs and sharing with you cold hard data (bow-chica-bow wow). We have some fun ones this week, so dust yourself off, pick yourself up, yank out those bee stingers, pee on that jellyfish burn, do your pushups, take some vitamins, and sternly tell that person in the movie theater TEXTING IS JUST AS DISRPUTIVE AS A PHONECALL.

What is best in life? Well, topping the week with a 91.5% is definitely up there along with “hearing the lamentations of your enemy’s women”. Congratulations to all your barbarian loving, sword-swinging, snake-hating hardcores who heard Mister Universe and knew we were talking CONAN THE BARBARIAN. There was a lengendary story that Mattel made a series of toys for this movie, found out how violent the final cut was thus forcing them to pivot and do something with the bevy of plastic action figures they already made. Someone high up said slap a blonde wig on it, and by the Power of Consumerism… He-Man was created. Certainly this story can be verified with a few keystrokes on Google, but if proved faceticous our hearts couldn’t take it, plus we’d owe an apology to about 600 fellow grade-schoolers we told that lie to when we were growing up.
Accorinding to people who have seen this movie, it’s actually good and you totally should watch it! If only Conan went to high school with Lara Jean Song-Covey, he might have made her list of as well! But sadly, the timing was off by a thousand years or so. TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE has almost has many sequels as the Conan franchise, so let’s try to get that 33.4% win rate up a few notches by the time we get to the critically-acclaimed I Still Know That I Loved Those Boys Last Summer Or Rather The Summer Before Last.

Not sure how we’re supposed to stump you T2 heads, as this was a scene featuring very obscure actors with hard to narrow down voices. We actually take it as somewhat of a win that this number wasn’t above 80% given how rewatched this movie is.
This scene was so traumatizing that it kept us away from vending machine coffee for many years. Eventually, our era of long nights working as a homicide detective in a 1980s inner-city police precinct made it unavoidable. Hopefully CQ can keep us from returning to that life. [*A look out the window, a slow draw from our cigarette. Somewhere in the distance, a thunderclap.*]

Not gonna do a full deep dive on the rest of the week here, but we may have tossed a rod in your spokes by doing BREAKING AWAY midweek. Going by those numbers, we DEFINITELY should have saved it for a Sunday Stumper. We owe you a slightly easier Sunday Stumper perhaps… but then again, when it comes to difficult movies on a Tuesday, “no refunds”.

We recommend practicing every day if you want to solve the “riddle of steel”, just please, not on the bus okay?
 Badlands (1973) | An impressionable teenage girl from a dead-end town and her older greaser boyfriend embark on a killing spree in the South Dakota badlands. Bonnie and Clyde adjacent, but with that Terrence Malick disillusionment rife through the 1970s. This is one of those films that changes every time you see it, as you, the viewer changes. Over the years I have liked it less, then more, then less, then well enough to supplant it as the coveted recommendation of the week. -Sean |
