CineQuote Newsletter #99
The Fast & The Cervine

It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning.
We highly doubt there’s any other newsletter in your inbox with the courage or conviction to GIF a race between Dominic Toretto and Bambi. Sure, Toretto may have the advantage early on, but just wait til Bambi gets that full rack of antlers and realizes how to run without falling like a clutz. Speaking of amazing GIFS that chew bubblegum, kick ass, and function as a never-miss capstone to that text your drop in the group thread… https://giphy.com/channel/CineQuote/cinequote-newsletter-gifs
With great power comes great responsibility so use those CQ-made GIFS like you would all-spice; an occassional dash here and there. We’ll add new GIFs here once they’re board-approved, so maybe bookmark that link so you always have a way to win an argument whilst texting. I mean, what could they possibly say to you after seeing the above GIF other than, “I’m so sorry. You were right all along. I’m very, very sorry.”
We’ve got 99 newsletters but a rich Dickensian benefactor ain’t one, so thus, you’re reading the penulimate CQ Newsletter! After next week, unless we get a massive swell of new signups, or current signups who actually are clicking OPEN on this email in their inbox, we’re gonna have to freeze this here weekly missive and stash it next to a frozen Brendan Fraser, until a time in the future when we deem it more worth the manhours. We’ll do a big celebratory wake next week if we can type through the tears.

Academy Award winner… Encino-Man
To those who have been with us since the beginning of the Newsletter and read (or TRIED to read) every one of them, we love you, and also Hi Mom! Actually, that’s not true. Our collective mother disowned us and unsubscribed after we did Rambo II on April Fool’s Day but just used Stallone grunting or screaming for the first three quotes.
And lastly, welcome aboard to all our new CQ Members! We’re so happy you signed up. The others have been waiting for you! In addition to all the bonus features and extra games to play, the Triple Play below is for you and you alone! Click and enjoy.
This is the Member-Exclusive mini-CineQuote (3 quotes to get it right) provided each week here in the Newsletter, so if you wanna be one of the coolest kids at the lunch table, click that profile tab on the App and help support this plucky little underdog of a mobile game by becoming a Member for $5 a month (less than a quarter a day!) Thank you, thank you, thank you! But of course everyone reading this is welcome to try their luck at the One Shot:
Alrighty. Let’s talk numbers:
Last Week’s Highlights
Highest Win Percentage91.7% ![]() Scary Movie (2000) | Lowest Win Percentage43.9% ![]() Changeling (2008) |
Just imagine if we did SCARY MOVIE 4 instead. Would you have stood a chance recognizing the subtle changes in plot and character across all 5 (oh damn, 6 now!) Scary Movie installments? See. Sometimes we’re actually nice and just go with the first one. In a way, the exact opposite situation occured with the Fast and the Furious movie from last week, but more on that later.
At no point in CHANGELING does an old-timey Depression-era hobo say, “that boy there, he-uh Changelin’.” Unfortunately you had to either recognize Angelina’s voice and know the plot of this movie, or you had to know that archaic term for a creature prone to body-switchin/impersonating. Did you know Clint Eastwood directed AND scored this movie? Now that’s some empty-chair talkin’ versatility!
Ace of the Week18.7%"I have kids to feed." "What they don't like falafel?" |
Damn, you Batmaniacs are too damn good. Maybe y’all had Nolan on the brain thanks to the recent hot ticket The Odyssey, but getting BATMAN BEGINS off this brief, simple exchange is the stuff the League of Shadows couldn’t even muster. Well done. Alfred respectfully and quietly nods in your direction out of respect (and love).
Here are the numbers for all the games last week.
Movie | Win % | Ace % |
|---|---|---|
Scary Movie (2000) | 91.7% | 4.0% |
Bambi (1942) | 89.6% | 2.3% |
Batman Begins (2005) | 86.7% | 18.7% |
The Last of the Mohicans (1992) | 64.3% | 3.9% |
An Officer and a Gentleman (1982) | 63.8% | 0.6% |
Furious 7 (2015) | 59.1% | 2.1% |
Changeling (2008) | 43.9% | 1.7% |
We probably screwed up making a F&F movie a normal run of the mill kind of game, and not a Sunday Stumper. Every 19 seconds a new Fast and the Furious movie or spinoff goes into production, so FURIOUS 7 being so difficult is on us. Next time you hear some vrooms vrooms and Vin Diesel’s 58 Hz low register in the key of D2, we’ll make sure you have more help in figuring out which specific instance he was fast and/or furious.
The last word in the last quote of AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN was “Officer”. Some recognized the hint, most missed it. Like Mister Rodgers famously once said, “"Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." We’re pretty sure he meant “look for the hints that CineQuote is trying to give you with that last quote.” And yes, he died about 20 years before we started this game, but who’s to say his spirit isn’t still comforting us?
CQ Recommends

We recommend scheduling a rabies shot after visiting Bruce’s new cave.
A socially awkward tween endures the ruthless hierarchy at a water polo camp, his anxiety spiraling into psychological turmoil over the summer. Bullies be bullying, even at rich kid water polo camp. A strong directorial debut from Charlie Polinger this popped up on several reputable “Best Of” lists from 2024 thanks to a few select standout performances from adolescents. In fact, the main bully from The Plague won the supporting trophy at the Independent Spirit Awards and boy does he play a hateable little prick. -Sean |
